The people building AI for seniors will tell you it's all inevitable. The demographic cliff. The caregiver shortage. The march of technology into your parents' lives. Resistance, they imply, is futile.
We don't see it that way.
Maggie is not something that happens to your senior. She's someone they choose to pick up the phone for - and can stop choosing any day, no explanation owed. Dignity isn't something a technology grants a senior. It's something a senior already has, and technology should be careful never to take.
She isn't the doctor, the nurse, or the caregiver who nags your senior to do things they've never had to do themselves. It's a strange thing about a lot of care - so much of it is delivered by people instructing someone through an experience they've never lived.
Maggie doesn't instruct. She keeps company. She gets to know your senior the way a friend would - their first language, the news they'd rather not hear, the small things that make them light up. She isn't there to fix anyone. She's there to know them.
That happens to be my mom. Maybe your family member has COPD stage 3, and can't walk up their apartment stairs without stopping every two steps to catch their breath. Everyone has their story. These are Antje's and Chris's.
Maggie won't cure any of it. She won't take the tiredness away, or make the hard days easy - and I'd be suspicious of anyone who told you otherwise.
What Maggie can do is be there. On the good mornings and the hard ones. To find the one sunny thing worth doing. To remember what they said last week. And to make sure that, on the days it matters, the people who love them know.
That isn't a miracle. It's company, and dignity, and never being alone with it. That's the whole reason we built her.
